A motor is one of the most crucial parts of an AC unit. As such, it is important to ensure that it is always in good condition for efficient performance. If the fan in your AC unit is noisy or refusing to turn on, then the issue could be a loose fan or dirty blades.

You should talk to a professional HVAC technician as soon as you notice any of these issues. Air Giant Heating & Air Conditioning will help you replace your AC unit’s motor and check if there are any other issues.

Steps Involved in Replacing an AC Unit’s Motor

Step 1: Switching the Power Off

The first thing a technician will do is turn off the power of the unit before commencing the replacement process.

Step 2: Removing the Clutter

Next, the technician will clean away dust particles and dust bunnies as well as rake leaves and debris from the condenser.

Step 3: Vacuuming the Fins and Removing Wiring

The HVAC technician will then remove the grill or cover and use a soft brush to remove debris or rake leaves from the fins of the AC. The fan motor is right underneath the fins. Your technician will disconnect the wires connected to the motor. Certain types of air conditioners may require oil lubrication to remove the fan motor.

Step 4: Removing the Fan Motor and Fixing a New One

To remove the motor safely, the fan needs to be gently lifted up with the power wires and the available mounting bolts. Your technician will then install the new fan motor in the reverse process. The fan motor will be placed inside the AC unit with the wires tightened and the switches fixed. The AC should then be turned back onto the thermostat mode.
